USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR

Bess Saunders has fallen in love. He is big, he is charmingly masculine, and his Scottish accent sends her reeling with very unmaiden-like desires.
Having inherited his mother’s English home and title, Earl of Dunkirk of Scotland is considered a prize catch by the haute ton. He knows one day he will have to marry to carry on his name, but he wants a wife who ‘understands’ they will each go their own way after she gives him an heir—a marriage of convenience.
Lady Bess does not fit into those plans. How could she? She is exquisite, yes, but she is also an innocent who expects faithfulness. He won’t ruin an innocent, and yet, he can’t get her out of his head.
All this time, and right in their midst, evil hovers. Although Bess doesn’t look for it, she finds it—and Bess is not your average, simpering female. She takes on danger and mayhem like she does everything else full throttle.
Adventure ensues as we travel with Bess through romance and the battle of her life.

I think this story had a lot of potential, but it just wasn't that great. I liked the characters well enough but there didn't seem to be much of a plot and things moved along excruciating slow. I think they author tried to make the waiting seductive, but it fell flat for me. For example, you have to get half way through the book before the first kiss even happens. Oh, they think about it, dream about, sigh about it, and talk around it but they never do IT.

I don't think I would recommend this story...because although the characters are enjoyable there isn't much more to the story. I like romance and passion...nothing extreme, but a little would be nice. A few parts grab your attention, but for the most part I skimmed pages. You may like this read if you enjoy a light romance.

Lady Bess edition by Claudy Conn Karen Babcock Romance eBooks Reviews

If you will read the book, you would think that the story is about a bunch of kids who are looking for 1 adventure to the next. The only grown up, but not necessary mature, character in the book was John. It makes sense actually because he is older than the rest of them.

Bess shouldn't be called a Lady at all given how she takes one dangerous activity to the next. I wonder how John was attracted to her especially with how she behaves. Though I must admit her action to save a child from his kidnappers was courageous, it also showed how reckless she could be. Probably that endeared her more to John. I didn't see much of a romance between Bess and John. It's more like reading an action / suspense book rather than a historical romance. Most of the conflicts in the book are not even related to how these 2 main characters' love story has blossomed.

I just finished the book because I was intrigued if there is any growing up on Bess' side that will happen before their HEA. Unfortunately, I was disappointed that there was none. Even Bess' dad seemed to have fun getting involved in the action. But so much for wanting Bess to grow up when her dad himself was acting like a teenybopper out to have some adventure of his life. The book is not interesting enough which may not hold the interest of the readers for that long.
Okay, this is not a perfectly researched Regency romance. So what? I found it still a good story. I liked it. There were some problems, the "glow" Lady Bess kept describing for John just got annoying; and John's constant dithering about whether he really wanted Lady Bess got old. But, it was, in the end, for me, an enjoyable read. And I liked the characters, too. I found the relationship Lady Bess had with her father quite a change from the usual, and liked it a lot. Usually the father is an overbearing or absentee parent, and this was a really nice change. Again, I liked it.
Lady Bess had a decent plot but I wanted more, more tension between the leads and more heartfelt dialogue between them too. This book had potential it just lacked that umph that makes me want to stay up all night and see what will happen next.

Lady Bess is an accomplished horsewoman who falls for a Scot who is a rake. She is entranced with him and even though she knows he is a rogue, she cannot stop herself from thinking of him.

John is a Scottish Earl and he finds himself falling for young Bess. He likes her spunk and sass. He doesn't put up a fight long and he is rather easily caught. He never seemed like a man who had a reputation around Bess.

Most of the tension comes from Bess getting herself into dangerous situations which resolve themselves when her hero comes to the rescue. Her romance was less interesting than her exploits. This needed much more emotional scenes between the leads.
Really, this was a pretty good romance. I loved that, in this romance, the two have a feeling of love at first sight and I also loved the descriptions of when they see one another. I thought most of the characters were nicely developed. I loved Bess's character, though I didn't like that she felt (at least to me) the same throughout the book. Like, she didn't develop (even her emotions for the earl) overly much, though she had doubts.

I enjoyed the twists in the book, except for the ending. I don't mind the "happily ever after" that all romances have, but I didn't like the ending the villains had gotten. Now, I'm not going to give anything away, but I thought, with everything they did, they kinda got off pretty lightly. However, in the same sense, it still gives the book a bit more of a "lighthearted" feeling.

This book does contain sex (for those who mind it), though it's very light in the way it's not overflowing the book. Most of it, though, is innuendo. There were some odd phrasing that threw me (and, please, it may be me because I've only just started getting into reading more historical romance), like "What is to do" or "They then repaired to the library". I didn't see anything above the norm, small grammar mistakes--a plus!

Overall, I definitely would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical romance.
Just finished this very enjoyable regency romance and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre. The h is lovely and charming as well as innocent. The H is sexy, masculine and very good looking with a cute Scottish brogue. What's not to like about this couple. Although he's not about to get involved with a gorgeous innocent and has no plans to marry a virgin, his heart is turned by this wonderful, vivacious lady who wraps her father around her little finger. Of course he comes to realize she's doing the same to him and he can no longer resist her when she comes to him hoping to win his love and lose her innocence. There's not a lot of sex in this book since they don't even kiss for the first time until half-way through the book. Although he has sexual fantasies about her and she about him, they don't really get together until 75% through the book. There are interesting twists about a young boy being kidnapped and his nasty relatives wanting to do him in to inherit his father's wealth. Of course our h and H get involved in trying to save the boy. This book was hard to put down.
